Choose and test video sources for your screen

This guide helps you choose content and a hosting platform. The current SUISSE-VIDEO project help lists YouTube and Vimeo links as clip sources. Your own recordings can be hosted on those platforms.

1. Define the message and who maintains it

Decide what the video should do: introduce your business, show a region or explain a process. With your own recordings, you can maintain the content and publication yourself. Before use, check the permissions needed for footage, music and recognisable people. Public availability alone does not demonstrate permission for your intended use.

2. Check the platform and sharing settings

SUISSE-VIDEO uses YouTube and Vimeo links as clip sources. YouTube embedding must be enabled; age-restricted videos cannot be watched on most third-party websites. Vimeo embedding can be restricted to specified domains. Check the actual playback address and its permission, including when the project is also embedded in your website. The provider guides are linked below.

3. Use the actual video link

Create the clip with a title and the full platform URL, then check the preview. For Vimeo, retain the full provided link rather than removing parts yourself. Assign the clip to a playlist and the intended project. Your own film is first hosted on a supported platform; this guide does not assume direct MP4 uploads.

Example: three source decisions for Pizzeria Oliva

Fictional restaurant example, not a customer case study. The table compares practical decisions, not guaranteed platform features or prices.

4. Test on the intended device

Open the project using the browser and internet connection intended for everyday use. Check startup, aspect ratio, whether sound is needed and the transition to the next clip. Test without relying on a personal login to the video provider. A brief successful preview does not confirm a full day of playback: observe scheduled changes as well.

5. Plan checks and a replacement

Record the clip, platform link, person responsible and last check date. Retest playback after changes to the video or sharing settings. A third-party publisher may remove or restrict a video. Prepare a suitable replacement and record how to add it to the project. A prepared replacement is not a promise of automatic failover.
