Label QR codes clearly and test them on your screen

This guide combines a clear instruction with a working link, an on-screen scan test and an alternative for visitors who do not scan.

1. Choose a specific action

Decide what should happen after scanning: read a menu, explore a product or register for an event. Use an existing page that supports that action. Linking to a description is not the same as registration. Label the code so the actual next step is clear.

2. Check the destination address

Open the address and confirm it leads to the correct page. Public displays need publicly accessible addresses, not local previews such as 127.0.0.1. On a smartphone, that address does not lead to your preview computer. Keep private access details and confidential links out of the code. An external short link introduces another dependency; a stable address on your own site is easier to recognise.

3. Prepare the code and label

Use clear contrast and leave an unobstructed margin around the code. Keep it separate from moving images and other codes. Put the action beside it and add a short web address or contact. If you prepare the code and text as an image, check how it can be included in your project. This guide does not assume a built-in QR generator in SUISSE-VIDEO.

Editorial examples without real QR codes or registrations. Use a label only when the destination actually provides the stated content or action.

4. Test the screen and smartphone journey

Scan from where visitors actually stand, including from the side and under different lighting. Reflections, a small code or an early content change can make scanning difficult. Use more than one smartphone if possible. Then check the mobile page through to the intended information or confirmation. Test forms only with designated test details and without accidentally making a reservation.

5. Keep the link and display current

Assign someone to check the destination and code after changes. Event registration must match the correct date; remove or revise the display after expiry. Check language versions and destinations together. Before scanning, ask someone else what they expect to find. If the expectation and destination differ, change the label or link.
