Portrait or landscape: design content to fit

A narrow portrait area and a wide landscape area need different layouts. Design for the space actually available so that dishes, prices and images remain clear.

Start with the display area

Record the width and height of the area your content occupies. This may be the whole screen or an embedded area on a website. A vertically mounted screen also needs the correct orientation on its playback device.

Rearrange the same menu

In landscape, two short offers can sit side by side. In portrait, they work better stacked. Keep dish names and prices together and shorten lengthy descriptions. Simply squeezing a wide table into a narrow area often makes the text too small.

Check images and video separately

Preserve proportions. Showing the full image may leave borders; filling the area may crop important details. Check actual playback in the project. These examples do not assume automatic video adaptation or a rotation feature in the software.
