Describe your daily specials clearly: dishes, prices and what’s included

Create a daily specials menu that answers common questions before guests order. This guide shows how to turn vague wording into a clear offer.

SUISSE-VIDEO · 5 October 2026 · 4-minute read

1. Start with what the kitchen is actually serving

Confirm today’s dishes, included sides and any ingredient changes with the kitchen. Do not copy yesterday’s wording without checking it. The screen must describe what guests will actually receive.

2. Give the dish a clear name

Name the main ingredients and preparation where they help guests choose. Instead of “Today’s favourite”, try “Penne with tomato sauce and basil”. Add details such as “with chicken” or name the side dish when relevant. Leave out promotional words that do not explain the food.

3. Show the price and what it covers together

Give each dish its own price and state the currency. Explain beside or below it whether salad, soup, a side or a drink is included. If you offer a meal with or without a drink, show both options and their respective prices.

4. Check labels against the ingredients

Vegetarian and vegan mean different things. Check sauces, stock and garnishes before using either label. Staff should have access to current kitchen information when guests ask about ingredients or allergens. A short label does not replace that information.

5. Make additional details easy to find

The screen helps guests make a quick choice. Longer descriptions and other dishes can appear on the full menu. A note such as “Questions about ingredients? Please ask our staff” explains where to turn. Check that guests can actually access the additional information.

6. Ask someone else to read the menu

Ask them: What is the dish? How much does it cost? What comes with it? Is a drink included? If they have to guess an answer, revise the wording. Then check readability on the actual screen and confirm the scheduled display time.

Example: Restaurant Pizzeria Oliva

The table uses fictional dishes and prices to illustrate clearer wording. The revised version adds the details guests need without a lengthy description. These details must be updated whenever the offer changes.
